To identify the training needs of individuals and groups of match officials.

To organise and oversee the delivery of a programme of referee training for all members of the SRFU Referee Society to address the identified training needs

It is highly unlikely that Sussex Referees will be available to be appointed to referee Age Grade Rugby matches at U16 and below. Clubs will need to make their own arrangements to provide referees and touch judges for these games.

Whilst every effort will always be made to meet requests from clubs for Sussex referees, the number of referees available on any given weekend is finite and clubs may have provide referees and touch judges for matches involving players over the age of 16.

The attached document provides information on:

  1. How to find a Sussex referee for Adult, Colts, Boys U17 and Girls U18 matches
  2. The club’s responsibilities for:
  • Confirming matches prior to the game.
  • Notifying the referee if a match is cancelled or postponed.
  • Paying the referees expenses
  • Providing changing facilities for the referees.
  • Preparing the pitches and technical areas.

3.     The responsibility of each of the teams involved in a match to provide a touch judge.
