  • What is the England Rugby Developing Player Pathway?

A new England Rugby Girls Developing Player Programme has been launched for U16s, enabling more girls than ever to have access to pathway training and playing opportunities while playing for clubs and schools nationwide.

The programme will complement existing club and school rugby and support the rapid growth of the women’s and girls’ game. It will focus on core skills and physical development. Positional, athletic and core rugby skills will be the programme’s foundation, providing a platform of success for all individuals, no matter their eventual playing position or context.

  • Selection process

    May: Invitations for Assessment

An email will be sent out to all U16 Girls Squad Managers in May along with an Application Form inviting them to nominate any girls to take part in the U16 Girl’s England Developing Player Pathway (U16 Girls EDPP) training sessions and open days.

    August: Assessments

Assessments will take place in August so that the programme can start in September. Players can apply to take part in the U16 Girls EDPP at any point if a player and their coach feel that the player would benefit from taking part in the programme. All the Squad Manager has to do is contact the U16 Girls ERDPP Programme Manager.

    September to March: Training

Training sessions are typically held on 6 Friday evenings from September to March at Brighton RFC from 7pm – 9pm

    February & March: Matches

The U16 Girls ERDPP group will play in 2-3 festival style matches against other ERDPP Groups in February and March of each season
